“I’m opening doors for you –walk through them.”

From the prairies of Saskatchewan to sharing the stage with arguably the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time, Colin James still remembers those words of advice given to him by the late, great, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

For every young guitar player growing up in a small town, Colin James’ story is their story – one of drive, passion, ambition and a strong sense that their destiny lay beyond the safe confines of home. Looking back on a career that now spans over two decades, Colin has walked through more than just a few doors to reach the level of success that he enjoys today. He continues to record the music that he loves has sold multi-platinum many times over, and his concert tours continue to sell out coast to coast.

Over the years he has worked with a who’s who in the music scene– Bonnie Raitt, Albert Collins, Pops Staples, Robert Cray, Luther Allison, Albert King, Keith Richards, Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, Mavis Staples, Roomful Of Blues, Bobby King and Terry Evans, John Hammond Jr., The Chieftains, Carlos Santana, Little Feat, Johnny Hallyday, and Buddy Guy. In addition to writing his own material, his music has been recorded by the likes of Maria Muldaur, Johnny Halliday and Lucinda Williams.

A consummate professional and a superb guitarist, Colin is a musician’s, musician. The confidence that comes with maturity can be heard in his voice and seen in his electrifying stage performance. He does what comes naturally – he always has – he knows no other way and no other life.

Reviews for ‘Blue Highways’

“The fact that this is such a cohesive disc and the playing is a heartfelt celebration of the love for this music and its variety is something that explodes off the disc. A great disc to celebrate all that the blues has to offer.”  No Depression

“What a belting album! Simply terrific. Colin James has around 15 albums under his belt and this is one of the freshest and most dynamic things I’ve heard in ages...He has the chops and he definitely has the experience, but it is clear that he also has a love for the Blues and this is definitely one of the best around at the moment.”  Music-News

“...we hear a band in its element - performing the music they genuinely love. Blue Highways is consistently superb throughout” R2 Magazine

“He not only leaves a distinct impression of himself, but also, almost equally importantly, provokes rightful curiosity to seek out the sources of the songs. There are few more admirable ambitions for a contemporary blues player to accomplish.” All About Jazz

“...this is most certainly a brilliant homage to those who have gone before by a musician who is at the top of his game. Highly recommended.” Fetea Records

“Breathless stuff, his guitar playing was excellent and his vocals remarkably good... All in all, a top show” London Live Review,

“Colin James’ thirty-minute acoustic/semi-electric set... got a thoroughly deserved, full-voiced ovation from the Glasgow crowd” Glasgow Live Review, FabricationsHQ
