Baiana is THE band with the totally tropical twist.

Featuring sensational singer Laura Doyle and a top-class line-up of musicians, Baiana celebrates the music and magic of Brazil, performing songs from a treasure chest of Bossa Novas, seductive sambas and Latin-inspired reboots of classic pop hits.

Laura was inspired to form the band while living in Rio de Janeiro, where she became enraptured by the music of the clubs and dance halls and fell under the spell of musicians such as Sérgio Mendes, João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.

Baiana – which means ‘woman of Bahia’ – is a truly international affair and is completed by Norwegian percussion virtuoso Vidar Norheim (formerly of alt-pop darlings Wave Machines) exceptional gypsy-jazz guitarist Micky Dunne, sought-after Israeli bass player Jessie Eigan and German jazz drummer Tilo Pirnbaum.

Baiana’s performances pay homage to the classic Bossa Nova and Brazilian pop of the sixties and seventies as well as introducing amazing new arrangements of your favourite pop standards and, increasingly, original compositions.

The band is a treat for the senses too, with Laura’s outfits, headdresses and charismatic stage craft bringing all the charm and glamour of Brazil’s golden age of music to each show.

Baiana has gained a popular following in their native Liverpool – with celebrity chef Simon Rimmer among their fans - and have recently performed at sold-out shows in London’s clubland and the Edinburgh fringe. The band are due to play a two-week residence at this summer’s festival, following the success of their last visit.

Come and see them and you’re sure of a Braziliant night to remember!
